Digital Sky: Designing Split-Path Conversion Funnels
How a targeted, three-part web ecosystem solved a dual-audience challenge, transforming complex drone services into streamlined lead-generation machines.
Project overview
Role: Lead UI/UX & Web Designer
Core Focus: Information Architecture (IA), User Flow Mapping, Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO), B2B Landing Pages
The Goal: Build an engaging web presence that immediately segments diverse organic traffic and routes potential clients to highly tailored service portals.
One Brand, Two Radically Different Audiences
Digital Sky is a premier drone video production company. However, their service catalog represents a classic UX friction point: they serve two entirely different user personas who speak completely different languages:
The Creative Audience: Agencies, wedding planners, and businesses looking for stunning, high-production cinematic marketing videos.
The Industrial Audience: Construction managers, manufacturing firms, and agricultural operators looking for technical site inspections, mapping, and thermal imaging.
Putting creative portfolios and highly technical, safety-regulated industrial services on the same standard homepage would confuse both parties. Creative clients would find the technical jargon dry, while industrial clients might dismiss the company as "just a group of creative videographers" without the technical expertise they require.
The Solution Strategy: The Split-Path Ecosystem
Instead of forcing these two distinct audiences into a single, compromised user journey, I designed a modular, three-part ecosystem that segments users the second they land on the site:
The Gatekeeper (Landing Page): A clean, high-impact landing page that serves as a visual intersection. It immediately asks the user who they are and what they need, routing them to the correct hub before cognitive fatigue sets in.
The Creative Portal (Video Production): An immersive, visually rich gallery layout designed to showcase sweeping drone footage and cinematic storytelling.
The Utility Portal (Industrial Services): A clean, structured, data-first interface highlighting precision capabilities, compliance standards, and technical specifications.
The "Choose Your Path" Landing Page
The landing page acts as a digital traffic controller. I designed the interface with minimal distractions—focusing entirely on two prominent, competing call-to-actions (CTAs).
Using striking, high-contrast imagery to visually separate the "creative" and "technical" halves of the screen, users can instantly self-segment with a single click.
Designing for Upsell: Cross-Service Funnels
Industrial clients (like real estate developers and construction firms) always represent high-value potential video clients down the road. They often need marketing videos for their completed projects, but they don't think to look at their technical inspection provider for creative services.
To capitalize on this, I integrated cross-service conversion funnels directly into the Industrial Services portal. Strategically placed, low-friction content blocks and CTAs gently remind technical users of Digital Sky’s creative production capabilities, creating an elegant internal marketing loop without cluttering the technical interface.
The Impact
By pivoting to a strategic, split-path architecture, the redesigned web ecosystem successfully untangled Digital Sky's complex dual-audience challenge, transforming a single-page compromise into a highly targeted business tool.
Eliminated Cognitive Friction: By separating creative and technical audiences right at the gateway, visitors can immediately self-segment and access the content most relevant to them without wading through confusing, unrelated services.
Targeted Marketing Readiness: Rather than directing all paid and organic traffic to a single, broad homepage, Digital Sky can now run highly specific marketing campaigns that link directly to dedicated, audience-specific landing hubs—maximizing the relevance of every visit.
Organic Cross-Service Discovery: The subtle, strategically integrated cross-promotions on the industrial pages ensure that technical B2B clients are introduced to Digital Sky's high-end creative video capabilities naturally, opening up effortless avenues for cross-selling.
A Scalable Brand Presence: By establishing two distinct but cohesive portal styles, the new system gives Digital Sky the flexibility to expand either side of their business independently in the future without breaking the overall website structure.
